Bannack was originally part of Idaho until the town hung the sheriff and it was decided that 1 U.S. Marshall was not enough LAW for the now days states of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. It was like the town had been frozen in time - gold rush time! I was shocked to discover that some people lived in Bannack up to the 1970's.
